In today’s fast-paced world, where digital technology is revolutionizing every aspect of our lives, financial inclusion for Agricultural entrepreneurs remains a critical challenge in Tanzania, PASS Trust has emerged as a beacon of hope, for supporting these individuals to secure loans from various financial institutions and pioneering innovative solutions to bridge the gap.

One such groundbreaking initiative is the PASS Digital Credit Guarantee, a digital way for agricultural entrepreneurs to access loans through their cell phones. This article explores the significance of PASS Trust’s digital solution in transforming the lives of Agricultural entrepreneurs across the value chain. PASS Trust’s primary focus is on empowering smallholder farmers who form the backbone of Tanzania’s agricultural sector. By providing a digital platform for loan applications, it ensures that farmers can access funds more conveniently and efficiently. This empowerment translates into increased agricultural productivity, improved livelihoods, and ultimately, poverty reduction.

The Managing Director of PASS Trust, Mr. Yohane Kaduma says “Up to this point, we have proudly supported numerous agribusiness entrepreneurs by harnessing the power of digital credit guarantees. Our commitment to empowering these visionary individuals in the agricultural sector has been unwavering.”

Access to credit is a vital lifeline for smallholder farmers and entre-primeurs in Tanzania. However, the traditional lending process often leaves them excluded due to limited collateral and high-risk profiles. PASS Trust has stepped in to fill this void by introducing the PASS Digital Credit Guarantee. This digital solution opens avenues for those who previously had limited access to financial services, thereby significantly enhancing financial inclusion in the country.

It’s not just smallholder farmers who benefit from PASS Trust’s digital solution. Entrepreneurs operating along the agricultural value chain, from suppliers to distributors, also find themselves in a better position to secure loans. This holistic approach to financial support strengthens the entire ecosystem, fostering economic growth and stability.

During the pilot period, PASS Trust’s digital credit guarantee program covers 80 percent of the loan amount, thereby minimizing risks to financial institutions. This bold move not only encourages lenders to participate but also accelerates the adoption of digital lending solutions in the financial sector. It’s a win-win situation where both lenders and borrowers stand to benefit.

One of the standout features of the PASS Digital Credit Guarantee is its accessibility. Agricultural entre-primeurs apply for loans using their cell phones, eliminating the need for time-consuming visits to physical branches. Additionally, the program caters to a range of financial needs, with loan amounts starting from 500,000 Tanzanian shillings.

This flexibility ensures that individuals can access funds tailored to their specific requirements. “Through innovative financial solutions and cutting-edge technology, we have facilitated access to credit, enabling these entrepreneurs to invest in their farms, purchase equipment, and expand their operations,” says Mr. Kaduma. PASS Trust’s innovative digital credit guarantee is more than just a financial product, it is a lifeline for Agricultural entrepreneurs in Tanzania.

By leveraging technology to bridge the gap in financial inclusion, PASS Trust is empowering individuals and transforming the agriculture sector. As the program continues to expand, it promises to bring positive change to even more lives, ultimately contributing to the socio-economic development of Tanzania.
